Bidangil Pictures confirmed that the new film by JO Sung-hee (A Werewolf Boy, 2012) started shooting on December 2nd. Based on a fictional character in a Korean novel written during the Joseon Dynasty, the tale unravels around Hong Gil-dong, a local hero. The story which is often seen as a Korean version of Robin Hood was used as a motif for the film, Phantom Detective (working title),

The film cast LEE Je-hoon, a young actor who came to make a name for himself through the indie film Bleak Night (2010) and romantic drama, Architecture 101 (2012). This is his return to the silver screen two years after My Paparotti (2013). LEE will play detective Hong Gil-dong, who has an exceptional memory and exquisite personality, as he goes in search for a person he has failed to find for 20 years.

Alongside LEE, strong supporting actors KIM Sung-kyun, PARK Keun-hyong, and GO A-ra  are also on bord. KIM will play KIM Byung-deok, the person that Hong Gil-dong is searching for, while PARK will become an antagonist as he disrupts the investigation. Actress GO A-ra who recently confirmed she would appear in The Magician (working title) with YOO Seung-ho will become a key character who provides Hong Gil-dong with important clues.

The film will be distributed by CJ Entertainment.
