US-Korea Production to Compete in Top Indie Fest
A new documentary on Korea’s traditional ceramics trade will be featured in next year’s Sundance Film Festival. Screening in competition,
A Thousand Year Journey is a US and Korean co-production directed by South African filmmaker Michael Oblowitz.
Chronicling the 1000 year history of ceramics in Korea and its recent resurgence in the Incheon area, A Thousand Year Journey focuses on the craft of five modern day pottery masters. The 45-minute documentary, which is hosted by the model Estella Warren and also features Korean-American star Johnny YUNE, was sponsored by the City of Incheon.
Previously known for low-budget US action fare such as Steven Segal titles Out for a Kill (2003) and The Foreigner (2003), Oblowitz has recently moved into the non fiction realm. His next work will be a documentary about the surfer Sunny Garcia.
Last year,
