  • Asian Film Market Announces Book to Film Projects

  • 10 Projects Selected for BIFF Pitching Forum
     
    The Book to Film pitching projects, takes place during the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Film Market, has announced the ten projects that will take part in its upcoming third edition next month. Among the novels selected for the pitching forum are the new works of Silenced (2011) author GONG Ji-young and Dance with the Wind (2004) writer SUNG Suk-je.
     
    Every year, Book to Film serves as a meeting place for publishers and filmmakers which affords an opportunity for directors to discover fresh and original ideas among a selection of novels, comics, webtoons and children’s books. A total of 44 submissions were recorded ahead of this year’s event.
     
    GONG Ji-young will present her new novel High and Azure Ladder while SUNG Suk-je will be present with The Invisible Man. Along with CHON Min-siks The 13th Month and DO Jin-ki’s The Judas Star, these are all works that highlight social issues in Korea. Beyond these will be the period story The King’s Code from JOO Jin and the children’s novel Running in May about a young athlete who gets caught up in the Gwangju Massacre. Beyond these, a number of comics and webcomics are begin presented, including CHOI Hoon’s baseball story Closer Lee, action saga Like Wolf and webtoon I Saw You.
     
    The projects were selected by a panel which included Eungyo (2011) director JUNG Ji-woo, film critic KIM Hye-shin. Book to Film will present its open pitching event on October 6th at 10am in BEXCO’s Exhibition Hall 4. The 19th Busan International Film Festival will take place over October 2nd to 11th while the Asian Film Market will be staged from October 5th to 8th.
