  • 10 MINUTES and SNOWPIERCER Compete in Global Film Festivals

Two major film festivals are taking place on opposite sides of the Pacific next month and both have invited major Korean films to their main competition sections. The Los Angeles Film Festival will feature the acclaimed independent film 10 Minutes, while the commercial offering Snowpiercer will compete at the Sydney International Film Festival. Snowpiercer will also serve as the opening film of the LA Film Fest on June 11th.

LEE Yong-seung’s 10 Minutes, which takes a look at the harsh work environment in Korea, particularly for young professionals, debuted at the Busan International Film Festival last October. The film has proven popular on the festival circuit, screening at the Berlin and Hong Kong International Film Festivals and earning the top Cyclo d’Or from the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema.

Snowpiercer, the sci-fi blockbuster from director Bong Joon Ho, was a strong earner domestically, reaching over 9.3 million admissions. The film has also performed well in France and China and has screened in a number of other markets. Its Sydney competition screening will mark the film’s Australian premiere. The film will also have its North American premiere in Los Angeles, ahead of its theatrical debut on June 27th.

Also screening in Los Angeles will be LEE Sujin's redhot independent film Han Gong-ju, which will be featured in the International Showcase. Meanwhile, YEON Sangho’s The Fake will take part in the Features Section in Sydney.

The Sydney International Film Festival will run from June 4th to 15th while the LA Film Festival will take place from June 11th to 19th.
