  • COLD EYES to Receive Showcase in Newport Beach
  • by Pierce Conran /  Apr 24, 2014
  • Korean Thriller to Have Post-Screening Gala

The 15th Newport Beach Film Festival will kick off tomorrow, April 24th, and just as it did last year, the festival will feature a special Korean Spotlight. This year’s invited film from the peninsula is the hit action-thriller Cold Eyes.

Directed by The World of Silence (2006) helmer CHO Ui-seok and former cinematographer KIM Byeong-seo, Cold Eyes is a taught surveillance thriller that won over spectators last July when it soared over five million admissions. The film also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, among other events. Cold Eyes stars SEOL Kyung-gu and JUNG Woo-sung against type, while also featuring rising star HAN Hyo-joo.

The Newport Beach Film Festival Korean Spotlight will take place on Monday, March 28th, and the film will be followed by a post-screening Gala. According to festival CEO Greg Schwenk: “The Festival continues a proud tradition of presenting the very best in Korean Cinema. Cold Eyes is a sleek action-thriller. Strong direction and great acting make this a must see for 2014.”

The evening is supported by media and cultural organizations such as Korea Boo, Asians on Film, Modern Korean Cinema, Korea Times, Orange County Korean Cultural Center and the Consulate General of Korea in Los Angeles.
