  • The ATTORNEY garnered 3 nominations

The Asian Film Awards, also known as the ‘Asian Oscars’ are to be held in Macau’s Dancing Water Theatre March 27th. Founded in 2007, AFA brings together all Asian cineastes on to the red carpet. The Awards has 14 categories of which 5 different Korean films were nominated for.

The Attorney garnered 3 nominations at the AFA with Best Actor (SONG Kang-ho), Best Newcomer (IM Si-wan) and Best Supporting Actress (KIM Young-ae).

IM is a member of the popular K-Pop band ZE:A. The Attorney is IM’s second feature film where he plays the role of a student activist who was tortured into a false confession. His riveting performance in the film captured the attention of both fans and critics.

The popular action film Cold Eyes bagged 4 nominations. HAN Hyo-joo received a Best Actress nomination. HAN has already won Best Actress Awards in the 2013 Buil Film Awards, 2013 Korean Association of Film Critics Awards and 2013 Blue Dragon Film Awards, all of which were based in South Korea. Her AFA nomination marks her first international nomination for her role in Cold Eyes.

The South Korea-France-USA co-production blockbuster, Snowpiercer, leads all the Korean films with a total of 5 nominations. It is nominated for the Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematographer, and Best Production Design categories. It won the Best Film Award at the 2013 Korean Association of Film Critics Awards.

Respected South Korean actress, JEON Do-yeon, was named the AFA ambassador. Jeon has won numerous awards over the span of her 20 year career. She solidified her status as an outstanding actress after earning the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival, becoming one of only two Asian women that have received the illustrious accolade.

Mr. LEE Yong-kwan, Director of the Busan International Film Festival was selected to be part of both the jury panel and organising committee. As a result of his involvement, the 8th AFA will be jointly organised by the AFA Academy and its constituent partners - Busan International Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Festival Society and Tokyo International Film Festival.
