Viewers Choose to Rewatch MIRACLE IN CELL NO. 7
In a poll conducted by Maxmovie, 2,622 respondents voted for their most memorable performers of the year from films that reached soaring admissions over 200 million for the first time. Stars SONG Kang-ho and JEON-Do-yeon topped the poll while the year’s biggest hit,
Miracle in Cell No. 7, was voted as the film most people would want to rewatch.
Despite a number of prominent male performers in 2013, SONG Kang-ho has had far and away the best showings this year as he starred in three hit films. He was the main Korean actor in BONG Joon-ho’s sci-fi blockbuster Snowpiercer, which powered to 9.3 admissions this summer and is the most eagerly anticipated Korean film of the year overseas. Next, he headlined the Chuseok period film The Face Reader, from director HAN Jae-rim, which attracted 9.1 million viewers to theaters. Finally, his new film The Attorney bowed to big numbers this weekend and it is looking likely to become a major year-end hit. All told, his films have sold over 20 million tickets this year.
There was no clear breakout star within female performers with relatively few strong roles for women in 2013. JEON Do-yeon, freshest in voters mind by dint of her lead role in the current drama Way Back Home, topped the poll.
The surprise hit Miracle in Cell No.7, which became the third highest grossing film of all time earlier this year, may not have been a hit with critics, but almost a year after its initial release, respondents still chose it as the film they would most likely revisit.
