RAM Also Taps HIDE AND SEEK
The controversial new KIM Ki-duk feature Moebius is preparing to descend on North American viewers following its acquisition by RAM Releasing, the new genre label of US distributor Film Movement. Also among the nascent label’s inaugural four-strong slate is recent Korean thriller Hide and Seek, from debut director HUH Jung.
Moebius premiered out of competition in Venice and also participated in last month’s Busan International Film Festival. It has already screened in Toronto, Fantastic Fest and AFI Fest in North America and is now set to return with a simultaneous theatrical and VOD release in the summer of 2014.
KIM’s latest film features no dialogue and concerns a woman who catches her husband cheating and after failing to castrate him, she inflicts the same punishment on her teenage son. Moebius stars CHO Jae-hyun, SEO Young-joo and LEE Eun-woo.
HUH’s Hide and Seek was a surprise hit this summer, when it accrued over 5.6 million admissions, making it one of the most successful Korean thrillers of all time. RAM will release the film on VOD in January with a DVD rollout planned for March.
Both deals were struck by SUH Young-joo and Luna KIM, the CEO and Head of International Sales, respectively, for Korean sales company Finecut.
