Becomes Most Watched Korean Movie Relased in France
BONG Joon-ho’s
Snowpiercer has become the most successful Korean film ever released in France. CJ E&M has announced that this latest work by director BONG has attracted 331,542 viewers in just 12 days in France as of Nov 11th, since its release on Oct 30th. The previous record-holder was
Chihwaseon by IM Kwon-taek, which was released on over 60 screens across France in 2002 and seen by 315,378 viewers.
Released on more than 300 movie screens, Snowpiercer rose to the second place among the 22 films released in the same week, next to the Hollywood blockbuster Thor: The Dark World. CJ E&M believes the film’s success comes down to BONG’s popularity in France, built by previous works like The Host (2006) and Memories of Murder (2003), and positive reception by the authors of the original French graphic novel on which the film was based and film critics.
