Released by Well Go USA and Drafthouse Films
A pair of recent Korean films, one a big domestic financial success and the other a darling of the international festival circuit, were both released on DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand in North America yesterday, July 23rd.
PARK Hoon-jong’s gangster noir New World was released by Well Go USA, following its North American theatrical run in March during which it earned USD 457,806. Meanwhile, during its domestic run in Korea, the film accrued 4,678,966 admissions and currently stands at number five on the yearly chart. New World stars LEE Jeong-jae, CHOI Min-sik and HWANG Jeong-min and tells the story of a mole planted in a large crime syndicate whose loyalties become split over time.
KIM Ki-duk’s Pieta won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival last year before going on to screen at dozens of events, including the Sydney, Dubai and Sitges Film Festivals. The film is distributed by Drafthouse Films and was released theatrically in May, when it earned USD 22,080. In Korea, the film sold an impressive 603,283 tickets.
Both films are being made available across numerous platforms, including DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand.
