  • 8 Korean Projects in the Mix at NAFF
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jun 04, 2013
  • PiFan’s Industry Arm Reveals Muscular Program

The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) is just around the corner and along with it comes its industry arm, the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF). Each year NAFF stages a genre film pitching market, the IT Project. They've just announced this year's 21 participants and at first glance it's a very exciting bunch of potential genre fare coming our way.

Among the selections are eight Korean picks covering a broad range of fresh and veteran talent. The occult horror Re: Make is the new project from JI Hajean who triumphed at PiFan two years ago with Bloody Fight in Iron-Rock Valley. There's also the Chosun-era set Secret Detective and Vampire from Two Weddings and a Funeral director KIMJHO Gwang-soo. NAM Ki-woong, another PiFan veteran behind Teenage Hooker Become Killing Machine (2000) and Never Belongs to Me (2006), will take part with his sci-fi comedy Capsule. LEE Soo-yeon, who previously made The Uninvited (2003), is also in the fray with Nowhere Man.

Outside of the Korean projects, directing duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson will be in Bucheon with their project Showdown at the Cataclysm, said to be heavily influenced by Korean revenge films.

The IT Project will afford participants the chance to have one on one meetings with potential financiers and distributors as well as the opportunity to win cash awards during NAFF, which will take place during July 21st to 24th. The selection for NAFF’s country spotlight, which this year is the Philippines, will be unveiled next Monday. PiFan will unspool from July 18th to 28th.
