Genre Trio Set to Delight Fans
The upcoming fifth edition of the Terracotta Far East Film Festival is taking a big leap as it expands from its traditional four-day incarnation to a supersized 10-day event. Just as in previous years, the latest and greatest of Korean cinema will be on show.
Three Korean films were selected this year and they will all appear in the Current Asian Cinema section.
RYOO Seung-wan’s
The Berlin File, which recently became the highest grossing Korean action film of all time, will be among the trio of genre works on display. The spy thriller, starring
HA Jung-woo,
HAN Suk-kyu,
JUN Ji-hyun and
RYOO Seung-bum, has already been warmly received in the United States, following its theatrical run there, and other countries as part of festivals such as Italy’s Udine Far East Film Festival.
A Werewolf Boy, another film with over seven million local admissions, will be joining it in the lineup. Last year’s number three film, the romantic fantasy genre picture stars hallyu idols
SONG Joong-ki and
PARK Bo-young. Directed by
End of Animal’s
JO Sung-hee, the hit melodrama has entranced young audiences around the world.
Rounding out this year’s Korean selections at Terracotta will be
OH Young-doo’s low-budget sci-fi private eye flick
Young Gun in the Time. The fresh and innovative genre offering premiered early last year during the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in Japan before delighting fantastic film fans at
PiFan and Fantastic Fest in North America throughout the summer.
With three strong Korean genre films to suit all-comers, Terracotta, whose distribution arm just released
The King of Pigs on DVD in the UK, is set to draw in hungry Asian film fans once again with its superb lineup. The festival will take place June 6-15.
