  • by JANG Sung-ran /  Dec 21, 2012
  • Whether SONG Hye-kyo Will Walk the Red Carpet Still Unknown

The Grandmasters, directed by WONG Kar wai and starring SONG Hye-kyo has been selected to screen at the 63th Berlin International Film Festival as the opening film. A representative of the office of the festival said on December 19th (CET) that The Grandmasters will open the 63th edition of the festival that is going to be held from February 7th to 17th next year.

The Grandmasters is a film about the life of YE WEN, the master of Bruce LEE. It is the newest film directed by WONG, who is well known for his hit films including Ashes Of Time, Chungking Express and In The Mood For Love. It created a lot of news when it was known that top actors in the Chinese region such as Tony LEUNG, Chiu WAI, Chang CHEN and Zhang ZIYI as well the Korean actress SONG gathered together for the film.

The world’s film industry has longed for the completion of the film that WONG has invested 4 years of effort in. Earlier, it was expected to be released in China in December, but it was postponed. Later, as WONG was appointed as a jury member of the competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival and The Grandmasters was selected as the opening film the release schedule was shaped up.

However, it is still unknown whether SONG will step on the red carpet in Berlin. The first episode of the TV drama that she co-stars with JO In-sung will be aired on February 13th next year. SONG’s management agent will discuss adjusting her schedule for the film festival and the drama shooting to see if she can visit Berlin.

Meanwhile, Nobody’s Daughter Haewon directed by HONG Sangsoo and JURY by KIM Dong-ho, the honorary festival director of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), have been invited to the competition section and the Panorama section of next year’s Berlin International Film Festival respectively.
