Several Korean films make their world premiere at the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), running April 29 - May 7. Among the 12 features in JIFF’s competition section is the premiere screening of An Escalator in World Order by KIM Kyung-man. The director’s feature debut is a cultural documentary on modern Korean society.JIFF will premiere 10 new titles in its Korean Feature Competition section. Anyang, Paradise City is the feature documentary debut by PARK Chan-kyong who won Berlin’s best short prize this year for Night Fishing with brother PARK Chan-wook. Other documentaries are AHN Kearn-hyung’s Out of the Cave, LEE Kang-hyung’s The Color of Pain, KIM Jae-hwan’s The True Taste Show, and KIM Hee-chul’s The Time of Lovelessness.Rounding out the section are feature dramas EU Il-won’s Sad Vacation, which follows a Korean detective’s journey to Viet Nam, Secrets, Objects by LEE Young-mi, Characters by SON Gwang-ju, Believe or Not by PARK Kyoung-mok, and the Jeju Island-set Pong Ddol by O Muel.JIFF’s Short! Short! Short! 2011 project presents two 40-minute Korean shorts: director YANG Ik-june’s first directorial work since his debut feature Breathless, is titled Immature. BOO Ji-young, director of independent feature Sisters on the Road, presents her new work Moonwalk. The project is produced by distributor Indiestory Inc., and co-financed by KT&G Sangsangmadang, Jeonju International Film Festival, and Indiestory Inc.Also, a total of 12 fresh Korean shorts will vie for the prize in the Korean Short Competition section.
