  • Korean Romance at Terracotta
  • by David Oxenbridge <KOFIC> /  Apr 07, 2011

  • Korean romantic comedy <Petty Romance> (2010) has just been confirmed to screen at the Terracotta Far East Film Festival in London.  The film which was released late last year in Korea and continued to sell well early into 2011 is making its UK premiere at the festival.

The film stars popular actor LEE Sun-kyun who plays Jeong-bae, a cartoonist who can draw but not get his stories right.  Actor LEE made his mark in several Korean dramas and a host of movies including PARK Chan-ok’s <Paju> (2009) and <Oki’s Movie> (2010) by HONG Sang-soo.  LEE plays against CHOI Kang-hee who last appeared in melodrama <Goodbye Mom> (2010) and plays creative but disorganized aspiring writer Da-rim.

Da-rim who is talented but ineffective with her ideas is fired from her job as a translator at an adult magazine.  Jeong-bae who is unable to write the stories for his comics, interviews the freshly fired Da-rim and the two embark on a mission to win an adult comic contest.

The Terracotta Far East Film Festival is an annual event which despite being only in its third year has already created an international profile.  As its name suggests the festival focuses on films from East Asia.  The festival is organized by the Terracotta Group which holds other East Asian film events and also has a distribution arm.  The festival which begins May 5 and will run three days until the 8th, will screen fourteen films.
