BONG Joon-ho’s Ambitious Sci-Fi Nearing Release

BONG Joon-ho’s highly anticipated fifth film, the post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer, is nearing is targeted summer release date and as we roll in to spring, so too does our first glimpse of the esteemed director’s USD 40 million global production.

A new one-minute clip, featuring some behind the scenes footage and some actual footage from the finished product, was released yesterday and has only served to raise already sky-high expectations. The video features some complex camera movements as well as large-scale fight sequences depicting the revolt that brews in the train.

Starring Chris EVANS, John HURT, Tilda SWINTON, Ed HARRIS, Jamie BELL, Ewen BREMNER, Octavia SPENCER, SONG Kang-ho and KO Ah-sung, the ambitious sci-fi was shot in the Czech Republic and financed by CJ E&M, who are planning to release it at some point this summer, with release dates expected to be revealed in mid-May. Meanwhile, The Weinstein Company will be distributing the blockbuster in English-language markets.

Great first glimpse of SNOWPIERCER: we are looking forward to watching this film on the silver screen soon - parts of the production were shot on Hintertux glacier in Tirol/Austria! We from Cine Tirol Film Commission supported the film team to find the outdoor locations in our beautiful mountain world and met BONG Joon-ho on an altitude of 3.000 m: he is a very creative director and very kind person!
