KOFIC celebrates Pieta's win as it gets biggest share of audience share.

Pieta which won the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival has become a hit at the box office. It's the first Korean film to win the top award at Venice, one of the top 3 film festivals in the world.
Pieta is currently at the top of the box office charts, fuelled by the win at Venice. It has drawn 130,000 in the first six days since its release, nabbing the biggest share of audience share.
According to figures collected on 11th September, audience numbers for Pieta had increased by 20% from the day before, reaching 131,756. After the news of its win at Venice broke, audience numbers are showing a continuous increase. The film has broken limits traditionally associated with low-budget independent films, reaching high on the box office charts at multiplexes. Its audience share is 27% as of 11th September, becoming number one out of all Korean releases.
Pieta drew attention when it became known that the news daily published by the Vatican, L'Osservatore praised it highly. It opened at 150 screens across Korea, which is the highest number of screens for a KIM Ki-duk film. The number of screens has increased to 288 following the win at Venice.
