  • KOFIC Unveils Comprehensive New Web Site
  • by David Oxenbridge <KOFIC> /  Apr 11, 2011
  •

The Korea Film Council has officially opened its new web site, ‘KOBIZ’,  increasing its capabilities to assist local and international film makers.  The creation of the new site comes in line with a broader movie which will see KOFIC boost its already significant film services to a new function to act as a gateway between Korean and international film makers and a way for international film makers to gain location support. The opening of the site follows the announcement of KOFIC’s new incentive programme which will allow international film makers to apply for a 25% cash incentive on their production costs.  Producers can potentially receive both KOFIC’s rebate and also access some of the other generous incentive programmes offered by other local commissions.  Given the increasing scope of KOFIC’s activities the new site can be thought of as more as an information system for both local film makers to gain access to foreign film makers and markets and international film makers and audiences to gain knowledge and practical assistance regarding films and filming in Korea.

First and foremost the new site will increase the amount of knowledge pertaining to Korean film and/or act as a hub to link readers to where they can find relevant information not included on the site.  The new site contains a ‘Co production Page’ and a comprehensive database with broad searching capabilities containing information regarding film companies, producers, directors, production staff and actors.  The information is in English, contains contact details and links international film makers with Korean film people who have already had international co production experience.   For film makers who want to submit their films to local international film festivals, the site will contain comprehensive information about the submission of films, deadlines and festival dates.  Also importantly, similar to other national film commissions around the globe, KOFIC will provide domestic location information including information about customs, investment structures, transport, tax and more.  Where local, regional information is needed, KOBIZ will put film makers in touch with local regional commissions.

Through the site, KOFIC will also continue to broaden its international promotion and marketing capabilities that has seen its booths posted at major film festivals and markets.  Korea Cinema Today, Korea’s only English film magazine will now not only be offered as a PDF but also as a webzine allowing more readers to access stories, opinion pieces, co production news, industry news and information regarding new film releases. KOBIZ will also continue to offer regularly updated film news and will increase its user interactivity through its own Youtube channel, Twitter and Facebook pages.

KOBIZ also contains a Korean language site with information relevant to Korean film makers wanting to do business with film makers from overseas. Local film makers will be able to access consulting services, information pertaining to contracts, laws and other international legal issues as well as detailed information pertaining to the film industries of 38 other countries.  In addition, Korean film makers and sales companies will be able to get tips and learn about 120 international film festivals and their submission guidelines.

Before creating KOBIZ, KOFIC conducted comprehensive research and surveys both at a domestic and international level.  The site then has been created partly in response to local film makers and companies who wanted to see a greater globalization and promotion of Korean film and the Korean film industry.   Given the broad and broadening scope of KOBIZ, the site intends to move with the times, exploiting social media, increasing its content and increasing the overall capabilities of the system as a hub of film related information and services.  The site was officially opened Wednesday April the 4th.
