  • Korean Film Council’s ‘2017 Korean Media Cultural Festival’
  • by SONG Soon-jin /  Dec 19, 2017
  • A Gathering of Citizens Who Are Audiovisual Creators

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Acting Manager LEE Joon-dong) held its 2017 Korean Media Cultural Festival for two days from December 7 to 8. The festival was co-organized by the Seoul Media Center and The National Association of Community Media centers with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The year marks the third anniversary for the event, which was founded in 2015 with the objective of creating more active community involvement in media creation. About 1,000 guests attended the festival this year.

Unlike the previous two years, this year’s event was held in Busan. “Instead of concentrating in Seoul, we’ve extended the event space and allowed media creators from an expanded area to come together.” KOFIC stated adding, “We plan on developing the cultural festival in the future to become an event that provides a place for continuous sharing.”

Held in the small theater of the Busan Cinema Center, 12 awards in 4 different categories were handed out. Categories included the Citizen Media Content Contest, Wikimediacenter Staff Empowerment, Wikimediacenter Club Activity, and a Grand Prize. At the 2017 Korean Media Cultural Festival, 243 works were submitted from all across Korea. KIM Eun-young’s Memory and Another Memory won the grand prize, while KIM Hee-su’s An Old Future, Bukseongpo-gu won silver, and LEE Sang-rim’s To Be Tamed won the runner-up prize in the blue category. After screening and evaluating regional media centers, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded a special prize, the 2017 Korean Audiovisual Cultural Festival Grand Prize, to Seongbuk Community Media Center.
