  • The 6th KOFIC Global Forum was a Great Success
  • by SONG Soon-jin /  Jun 27, 2017
  • About 300 Korean and Foreign Film Industry Officials

The 6th edition of the KOFIC Global Forum was held at the Korean Chamber of Commerce on June 20th and 21st. This year, the forum was a great success, with over 300 film industry officials, from home and abroad, in attendance. Participants received information on ways to reinforce the competitiveness of the Korean film industry, as well as research on long-term development plans.

The first day kicked off with a section titled ‘Search for Expanding Imagery Culture Rights through Overseas Media Policies’. This section had policymakers from the British Film Institute (BFI), France’s Centre National du Cinéma (CNC) and Telefilm Canada explain how to secure financial resources as well as the policies of organizations that provide support related to film and TV. In the subsequent section, Ted Hope, head of motion picture production at top global OTT company Amazon Studios, and Matthew Liebmann, senior vice president at big data marketing company MOVIO, explained how to utilize data from their companies.

In the first section of the second day, there were seminars with filmmakers from three Asian countries — Vietnam, Indonesia and Taiwan — that offered lectures on the current statuses of their countries’ film markets and mentioning the pros and cons of their film industries for international co-productions. The last section provided time to share the present condition of the American independent film industry in the fierce and diversified competition of media distribution. In addition, three female panelists, Creative Producing Initiative Director at Sundance Institute Anne Lai, CEO of an independent film production Alix Madigan and independent film director/producer Vanessa Hope, talked about women filmmakers in America’s independent film world and more.
