KOFIC to Host ‘Ko-Production in Busan’ during the 20th BIFF
Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman KIM Sae-hoon) is providing an opportunity for diverse Korean film projects to meet the international film professionals.
KOFIC hosts ‘KO-Production in Busan’ during the 20th
Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) for 3 days from October 3rd to 5th. ‘KO-Production in Busan’ this year is the 4th edition since its launch in 2012 and is introducing 12 Korean film projects. These projects are being developed aiming at international co-production where various countries including China, Japan and the US are invited.
KOFIC is planning on arranging meetings for Korean film staffs with film production technology and VFX companies, while introducing these film projects ranging from feature film, animation, road movie and melodrama.
The projects in ‘KO-Production in Busan’ show interesting synopses which often involve bold imagination. In Dreaming, a Korean man dreams of making love to a beautiful Japanese woman and after an accident he really gets into the body of her husband in Japan, a liberal independent band Bamseom Pirates becomes political and comments on social issues in Bamseom Pirates – Seoul Inferno-, a kind and hardworking taxi driver in Shanghai helps a customer and finally ends up in Jeju Island in Shanghai Taxi, and these are some of the projects awaiting international film producers at BIFF this year.
Some projects have quite an exotic setting. A top star leaves for Lisbon, Portugal, when she is cheated by her lover and loses the best actress award to her rival in A Summer in Lisbon, and a guy gets involved in clothes smuggling when he goes to Bogota, Columbia, to work with his uncle, in the project called Bogota.
Especially, Fly, Superboard based on a popular TV animation is receiving much attention as it has long been developed with the global market in mind.
‘KO-Production in Busan’ will take place from 10:00 to 18:30 from October 3rd to 5th at the Project Meeting Zone of Korea Film Center in Bexco.
