The Festival Director of Berlin International Film Festival, Dieter Kosslick, received the honors of the South Korean Cultural Medal (Eungwan Medal) from the government of the Republic of Korea. On February 23rd at the Korean Embassy in Berlin, Kim Jae-shin, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Berlin presented Kosslick with the medal in place of the South Korean president for his contribution to the development of Korean cinema.

Director Kosslick has headed the Berlin International Film Festival since 2001 and had continued to show deep interest and love towards Korean films. Through its festival programming, diverse Korean films were introduced throughout the years, becoming a bridge to introduce Korean films that allowed to display the quality and diversity of Korean films to Germany and the world.

government of the Republic of Korea decided to recognize Kosslick for bringing attention to Korean cinema internationally and for playing a part in the networking of Korean film industry professionals and international industry delegates. The official ceremony which was held at the Korean Embassy in Berlin on February 23rd, Dieter Kosslick, Programmer Daniela Weber, Festival Curator Tuomas Halier, and Coordinator of Official Competition section Solmaz Azizi was in attendance as well as key German industry professionals and press who joined to congratulate Kosslick on his recognition.
