  • Korean Film Night takes place with success

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) and the Korea Film Reporters Association (KOFRA) co-hosted ‘Korean Film Night’ at 9 pm on October 7th. For the party that took place at Paradise Hotel at Haeundae, Busan, a renowned British film critic Tony RAYNS received ‘Korean Film Appreciation Plaque’, a newly introduced mark of praise by KOFIC.

RAYNS has made great a contribution to Korean film for last 25 years by constantly searching for Korean films and making them known to other countries while working as a film critic at ‘Sight and Sound’ and programmer of the BFI London Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival.

NOH Hye-jin, the deputy director of ‘Screen International’, an American film magazine, received the 3rd KOFRA Award. KOFRA Award is given to one of the foreign reporters and journalists who have contributed to development of Korean film and the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and the awarding ceremony is annually held at the BIFF in October.

Around 600 guests including Korean and foreign directors and figures related to international film events such as the Cannes International Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival and Venice Film Festival, who visited the festival made an attendance at the reception.

KIM Eui-suk, chairman of the KOFIC said, “2012 has been a year that Korean film received new and bright light. For example, Pieta won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and The Thieves made a new record as the best hit in the Korean box office.” He then added his resolution by saying, “We will support Korean films so that they can become internationally more competitive and meet more foreign audiences.”

The KOFIC installed the biggest booth at the Asian Film Market (AFM) to support publication of Korean films and overseas sales of short independent films and post-production companies between 8th and 10th of October. They will also hold the first edition of ‘KOFIC Industry Forum’ where they will help domestic and foreign filmmakers meet each other to discuss international co-production and investment in Asia.
