  • Korean Diversity Films Hit Box Office

2015 would be a good year for Korean movie industry. Domestic market share rose to 68.4% in August, which had bottomed out once. Also, both Assassination and Veteran crossed ten million viewers. Prospects for autumn look bright while The Throne and The Long Way Home are waiting in the cinemas.

Not only commercial movies have their days. Socialphobia recorded six-figure admissions, a quarter of a million moviegoers, which is rare on the diversity chart, A long drought continued afterward, A Midsummer’s Fantasia sluiced water surpassing 30,000 audiences on 11 June in a month after its release.

Since then, Alice In Earnestland attracted more than 40,000 audiences despite its unusual sense and dark story, Factory Complex achieved 10,000 spectators, which is significant record for a independent documentary. Moreover Madonna which is released on 2 July, exceeded small but impressive number 10,000 moviegoers. Recently Love Never Fails broke 10,000 viewers in five days of its opening.

From 10,000 to 40,000 tickets are valuable results on the diversity chart, even though they are feeble numbers compared to ten million. Moreover, they are meaningful as much as big films.
