Jeju is a beautiful island with mountains, rocks and sea. It is not just travelers and city people dreaming of their second life on Jeju Island where the landscape changes every minute along the seashore. Filmmakers are also visiting Jeju.Canola (2016), starring YOUN Yuh-jung as a Jeju diver, was taken in an old house on the seaside of Pyeongdae-ri. Pretty cafes, restaurants and guest houses are being made as settlers from Seoul are gathered. The story of a grandmother and her granddaughter who have lived away from each other for a longtime is unfolded at this peaceful and beautiful seaside. Spring in Jeju with canola flowers is brilliant.
Architecture 101 (2012) made relatively unknown place of Jeju, Wimi-ri, a tourist attraction. A house built by Seung-min (UHM Tae-woong) for his first love Seo-yeon (HAN Ga-in) became a popular café after the movie’s success.
Jeju Island is famous for its ponies along with wind, rocks and female divers. Shincheon Ranch with a grand view of ocean, grassland and stone walls is the filming location of Lump of Sugar (2006) and Grand Prix (2010). It belongs to Jeju Olle Route 3 now with Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone view in a distance.
Udo, a small island beside Jeju, is also an attractive shooting site. My Mother, The Mermaid (2004) depicts a love story of a young woman diver and a postman in every corner of Udo noted for its transparent seawater and exotic beaches. In addition, in the movie Il Mare (2000), Seong-hyun (LEE Jung-jae) and Eun-joo (Gianna JUN), who are in love even though they have never met, make a promise to meet for the first time on the Seobinbaeksa Beach which is famous for its white coral sand.
