  • Which Movie will be the fastest to hit the 10-Million-Viewer Mark?
  • by Kim Hyun-jung /  Jul 30, 2015
  • Will ASSASSINATION Beat ROARING CURRENTS' Record?

Korean historical blockbuster Assassination, released on July 22nd, has exceeded four million admissions as of the 28th of this month. The film recorded the top gross ticket sales domestically and attracted over over 400,000 moviegoers even on weekdays, so it is expected to be on the list of movies to hit the ten-million-viewer mark

Up to this point, 11 Korean movies have reached ten million admissions. Silmido (2003) became the first Korean film to surpass ten million admissions in 58 days after its release, TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War (2003) followed 2 months. In addition, King And The Clown (2005) joined the top ranks as the first historical drama on the Korean box office chart. The Host (2006) set a record with over 13 million admissions the following year.

Recently, it took 12 days after the release of The Roaring Currents (2014), 22 days for The Thieves (2012), 32 days for Miracle in Cell No.7 (2012), 38 days for Masquerade (2012) and 54 days for The Attorney (2013) to climb to the 10-million-viewer-mark. Roaring Currents (2014) recorded the fastest rise to ten million viewers drawing an all time box-office record 17,800,000 in total.

Can director CHOI Dong-hoon surpass the record of his previous film The Thieves (2012) and challenge Roaring Currents (2014)? Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which will be released this week will be a tough rival.
