The sequel to Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), which was a smash hit across Asia, Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days had a strong opening. The new film is already performing much better than the first one, which has brought in 14,410,931 moviegoers since its domestic release on December 20th, 2017. While Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds sold 422,564 tickets on its opening day in Korea, Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days accumulated 1,268,402 in total admissions on the first day. The sequel follows the journey of three Guardians of the Afterlife as they go through their 49th trial in order to gain their reincarnation and recover their forgotten memories with the help of the Household God from the living world. The second part has already been watched by 6,194,377 people in its first five days of release, the fantasy movie has attracted more than 1 million moviegoers every day during the period. It seems to have the potential to break the record of Roaring Currents (2014), the most watched film of all time in Korea. The period naval epic garnered 1,410,271 admissions on its opening day. Roaring Currents’ score on the first day was a little bit higher than that of Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days, but the latter took the upper hand from the second day of release, the number of total viewers for Roaring Currents after five days reaching 4,767,617. If this trend continues, there is a high possibility that Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days will top the box-office all-time chart.
