Foreign Movies that Hit 10 Million Viewers
Avengers vs Avengers, we have a winner. As of May 19th, Avengers: Infinity War has officially surpassed Age of Ultron, becoming the second most-watched foreign movie in Korea. More impressive, it only took 25 days after its release for the movie to beat its predecessor. In terms of admissions, Avengers: Age of Ultron surpassed the 10 million milestones after 25 days of run and had a total record 58 days after its release. Avengers: Infinity War sold 1 million tickets on its first day and has managed strong ticket sales, breaking the 5 million mark in six days and the 10 million milestones in 19 days. Avatar, the top-grossing foreign film in Korea, took 16 days to bring in 5 million viewers and 39 days to go over 10 million viewers. Interstellar and Frozen, fourth and fifth most successful foreign movies in Korea, had slower paces than the recent Avengers flick: Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi drama amassed over 10 million moviegoers in its first three days and 100 million viewers after 51 days on release. Disney’s Frozen garnered only 160,000 moviegoers on its opening day but exceeded 10 million viewers after 46 days.
Those numbers definitely show how fast Marvel’s latest superhero blockbuster box office entries are growing. If it is true that Avatar is the top-grossing foreign movie, Avengers: Infinity War is the fastest foreign movie ever to have reached the 10 million milestones in Korea.
