Matchups between Korean and Hollywood Blockbusters for the Chuseok Holidays
Although this year’s weather forecast of a very long summer turned out to be inaccurate, the heated mood in the theaters of Korea shows no sign of cooling down.
MEMOIR OF A MURDERER has been smashing the competition while Tom Cruise vehicle
American Made and Edgar Wright’s
Baby Driver are doing as good as summer blockbusters. These three movies hope to continue their momentum into the longer than usual Chuseok holiday this year.
Typically, comedy and adventure flicks are released during the Chuseok holiday.
I Can Speak by
KIM Hyun-seok, who returns to the comedy genre, has a touching story of a tragic part of Korea’s history.
The Lost City Of Z by James Gray received an 87% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is armed with a pair of two heartthrobs, Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson.
It’s been a long time since Jackie CHAN has been seen in a movie released during the Chuseok holidays but this year, two animated films will feature his voice. Also, with the start of the holiday, two domestic movies based on true stories will compete with the sequel to a fantasy spy action film that became an incredible hit in Korea. After the holiday, the battle will be extended to a four-way race when Blade Runner 2049 is released on October 12th.
