- LEE Jeong-beom directed <The Man from Nowhere>, the biggest box office hit of 2010 among Korean films. As shown in his feature debut, <Cruel Winter Blues>(2006) and <The Man from Nowhere>, LEE has talent in making his male actors shine on the screen by helping them draw out emotions. <Cruel Winter Blues>, which is a story of gangster vengeance on the surface, in the end showed human bond that overcomes vengeful emotions by having the main character meet the mother of his target. LEE’s talent in commercial filmmaking blossomed with <The Man from Nowhere>. The movie starred [WON Bin], who played a role of a former secret service agent who lives in anonymity due to painful memories. [WON Bin] had been a star actor, but it was through the manly character in <The Man from Nowhere> that he proved to be capable of driving the entire narrative of a feature movie, instead of playing support to leading casts. Following the blockbuster success of <The Man from Nowhere>, LEE served as a script editor on BANG Eun-jin’s <Way Back Home> and then made another noirish revenge thriller with <No Tears for the Dead>. Despite a large budget, location shooting in the United States and the appearance of JANG Dong-gun and KIM Min-hee, the film failed to connect with Korean viewers. close
