INSIDE MEN Claims 4th Weekend Win

LEE Byung-hun Political Thriller Continues to Dominate

Ahead of the lucrative end of year season, which will kick off this week, admissions took another small dive due to an absence of compelling new releases, leaving Inside Men to take its fourth consecutive weekend crown. Overall, 1.6 million admissions were recorded as Korean films continued to lead the field, with a 64% market share.

WOO Min-ho’s political thriller Inside Men held on to its first place spot after selling another 603,009 tickets (USD 4.22 million), which was only 25% off from last week. The picture has now banked 5.96 million viewers (USD 40.23 million) and though business will likely take a hit in the coming days, it may still cross a few more milestones. It is already the third most successful film in star LEE Byung-hun’s career, behind Masquerade (2012) and The Good, The Bad, And The Weird (2008).

Also maintaining its place on the charts following a slight 25% dip was Ron Howard’s seafaring adventure film In the Heart of the Sea. The drama logged another 234,220 admissions (USD 1.65 million) for a solid 728,217 viewers (USD 5.18 million) to date.

Opening in third place was the new Pororo film (Pororo3 : Cyber Space Adventure), which mustered just 149,178 spectators (USD 945,197) over the weekend and 161,890 (USD 1.02 million) in four days. That was a little under half of the debut that the first film installment of the popular TV series mustered in 2012.

Slowing just 14% but down one spot was exorcism thriller The Priests, adding 134,078 spectators (USD 881,383) for a new total of 5.39 million admissions (USD 35.39 million). Opening in fifth place was Legend, with Tom Hardy, selling 111,784 tickets (USD 775,289). The gangster film has attracted 144,027 viewers (USD 978,826) since opening on Thursday.

The chart should look very different this week, with The Tiger and The Himalayas opening on Wednesday and Star Wars: The Force Awakens scheduled for Thursday. Currently, the latter is leading the reservations chart.
