Korean Studio to Develop Content for Disney Streaming Platform 

Studio & NEW, the production arm of Korean studio Next Entertainment World (N.E.W.), announced that it has sealed a pact with global streamer Disney+. The deal covers a five year period and includes a minimum commitment of one project per year.

The agreement is being described as a long-term content partnership which will focus not only on individual works, but also seek to develop a range of content to appeal not only to Korean viewers but also viewers around the world in the long run. Studio & NEW is planning to develop large-scale works as part of the deal.

“I have high expectations for the interest and reactions from fans all around the world, regarding Studio & NEW content that will be serviced by the global content creation company Disney+” said JANG Kyung-ik, head of Studio & NEW. “We will make a leap forward to becoming a global studio that creates K-content armed with various subjects and plot lines, which organically collaborates with other platforms.”

Studio & NEW has been active in content production for the big and small screen for several years, being responsible for varied hits such as the KBS2 dream Descendants of the Sun and the period action siege drama The Great Battle (2018).

Meanwhile, while Disney+ has yet to launch its streaming service in Korea, the company has already begun to develop and produce several major series in the markets ahead of an anticipated launch later in the year.
