JK YOUN and MIN Kyu-dong Elect as New DGK Representatives

Directors Guild of Korea Assembles New Committee

During a meeting held on February 22, filmmakers JK YOUN and MIN Kyu-dong were elected as the new representatives of the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK). Also appointed to the new DGK committee were directors KANG Hyoung-chul (Sunny, 2011), MO Ji-eun (A Perfect Match, 2002), KIM Hee-jung (Snow Paths, 2016) and PARK Hyun-jin (Like for Likes, 2016).

The Directors Guild of Korea was initially established in 2005 before officially beginning to function as an entity in 2013, at which time King And The Clown (2005) director LEE Joon-ik was elected as its first representative. The body counts over 300 members and represents most of the top filmmakers in the industry, including PARK Chan-wook (The Handmaiden, 2016), KIM Jee-woon (The Age of Shadows, 2016) and BONG Joon-ho (Okja, 2017), who served as the group’s previous chairman along with CHOI Dong-hoon (Assassination, 2015).

JK YOUN is one of the top directors and producers in Korea. He is one of only two filmmakers to helm two films that have crossed the 10 million admissions mark (Haeundae, 2009; Ode to My Father, 2014), and through his company JK Films he has produced several other major hits, including the last year’s Lunar New Year blockbuster Confidential Assignment (2017).

Director MIN Kyu-dong debuted with the horror film Memento Mori in 1999 and has released several hits over the years, including All About My Wife (2012). He is currently in post-production on the drama Her Story (working title).
