Im Kwon-taek's 100th movie faced a setback due to financing problems, but with financial aid from Kino2, Centurion Technology Investment Corp., and the Korean Film Council, the project is still alive. Im was scheduled to start filming last November. However, the lack of any big name actors in the cast caused the film's original investor to pull out. It seems now that production will start in March. Im's 100th movie Cheon Nyeon Hak has a close connection to Sopyonje, Im's critically well-received and popular movie from 1993. Both movies are based on the novel The Wanderer of Seonhak-dong by Lee Chung-joon. Furthermore, Oh Jeong-hae who played the female lead role in Sopyonje - is scheduled to play the character Songhwa again in Cheon Nyeon Hak. Im announced that because of the delayed filming, other cast members might have to be changed due to conflicting schedules. Im Kwon-taek has had two of his movies selected for the Cannes Film Festival, Chiwhaseon and Chunhyang. Chiwhaseon won Im the best Director Award at Cannes in 2002. However, Im's last movie Low Life was financially unsuccessful, which has contibuted the the financing problems experienced by his new work. Yi Ch'ang-ho (KOFIC)
