Anticipation builds for the American remake of PARK Chan-wook’s 2003 thriller OLDBOY as US-based sales company Good Universe sold the project to Universal Pictures International Entertainment for distribution in UK, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Australia and Spain.
Directed by American auteur Spike Lee (MALCOM X, 1992; INSIDE MAN, 2006), the US remake is being adapted by screenwriter Mark PROTOSEVICH (I AM LEGEND, 2007) and will star Josh BROLIN (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, 2007) and Sharlto COPLEY (DISTRICT 9, 2009) in the protagonist and antagonist roles, respectively. Elizabeth OLSEN (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, 2011) is likely to star in the lead female role.
Nathan KAHANE of Good Universe will be credited as executive producer. Spike Lee will produce the film alongside Roy LEE and Doug DAVISON of Vertigo Entertainment. The duo is known for specializing in Asian remakes, including THE RING (2002) and THE GRUDGE (2004) as well as 2006’s THE DEPARTED.
