Selected as the Korean Contender for the International Feature Film of the 95th Academy Awards

Director Park Chanwook's Decision to Leave has been selected as the representative entry for Korean films at the 95th Academy International Feature Film Awards next year. On Aug. 11, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) said it selected Director Park's Decision to Leave as the Korean film entry for the 95th Academy Film Awards based on comprehensively examining the film's cinematic quality, the director's recognition, and the overseas distributors’ promotion capabilities.

Regarding the reason for selecting Decision to Leave, KOFIC said, All of the entries have sufficient reasons to be selected. In particular, it is encouraging that we had a variety of very artistic films. However, regarding the characteristics of the Academy Awards, we had to consider the directors’ recognition, productivity, the box office potential in the North American market, and the promotion ability of the overseas distributors. From this point of view, we agreed that Decision to Leave is the most appropriate, and we look forward to its good fight.”

Meanwhile, Director Bong Joonho's PARASITE won the Palme d'Or at the 72nd Festival de Cannes and the 92nd Academy Film Awards for International Feature Film. Director Park Chanwook's Decision to Leave also won the Best Director at the 75th Festival de Cannes, and expectations are high on whether he will be able to win the Oscar after PARASITE
