PARASITE Filmmaker Working on 2 New Projects

Director BONG Joonho has added an animation to his list of upcoming projects. The Academy Award-winning Parasite (2019) filmmaker has been working on the idea since 2018 and completed a screenplay earlier this year. BONG will partner with the 4th Creative Party, one of the top visual effects houses in the country, on the CGI animated tale.

The animation has been described as a story that arises between human beings and deep-sea creatures, among them, an invertebrate deep-sea fish that believes it is suffering from a herniated spinal disc. BONG has reportedly already confirmed one voice cast member, though no name has been made public.

Before this as-yet-untitled animated project, BONG is expected to make a new English-language project, which he has also been developing concurrently. That project is based on a true event that occurred in 2016, and the director has stated that the production will have to be split between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Meanwhile, Director BONG is also an executive producer on HBO’s TV adaptation of Parasite and has been helping showrunner Adam McKay outline the story for the series, which is said to feature several ideas BONG wasn’t able to fit into the original film.

BONG is known for acclaimed box office hits such as Memories of Murder (2003) and The Host (2006). His last film Parasite became the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
