BFI Latest Fest to Fall for KIM Bora’s Debut

KIM Bora’s sensational indie hit debut House of Hummingbird has added yet another prize to its chest, after earning a Special Commendation from the First Feature Competition jury at this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

Following its debut a year ago in the New Currents competition of the Busan International Film FestivalHouse of Hummingbird has gone on a remarkable run that has netted it close to 30 awards on the international film festival circuit.

Jessica HAUSNER, an Austrian director known for the film Lourdes who served as the president of this year’s First Feature Competition jury in London, related that her jury wanted “to attribute a special commendation to House of Hummingbird, a film that surprisingly talks about the ambiguity within human relationships. Friendship, family, love – are questioned by the fact that feelings always are contradictory and change with time. A very profound insight on human existence.”

Other prizes that Director KIM’s debut has earned include the Grand Prix for the Best Feature (Generation 14plus) at the Berlin International Film Festival, Best International Narrative Feature, Actress and Cinematography at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the top prizes at the Istanbul Film Festival, Molodist - Kyiv International Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival, among others.

Furthermore, the film has also been a success at home, where it has to date welcomed a spectacular 130,000 viewers (USD 912,000) since its late August release, a large sum for an indie release.
