CJ 4PLEX Named Innovator of the Year by ShowEast

Cinema Technology Outfit Recognized for ScreenX

The Film Expo Group has selected leading cinema technology company CJ 4DPLEX as the ShowEast “Innovator of the Year” for their ScreenX technology. The award was presented to the company’s CEO Brandon CHOI at the ShowEast Awards Ceremony held in the Loews Miami Beach Hotel on October 25.

Launched by CJ 4DPLEX in 2012, ScreenX is a multi-projection theater technology that projects images on the left and right walls of an auditorium, in addition to the main image on the front panel, giving viewers a 270-degree cinematic experience. To date, 164 ScreenX theaters have been installed around the world.

Over time the format has become increasingly popular among top distributors, with several major Hollywood and local releases being adapted to project in the format. Recent ScreenX-enabled titles have included Black Panther, Rampage, Ant-Man and The Wasp, The Meg and The Nun.

“I am grateful to the team at the Film Expo Group to accept this award on behalf of CJ 4DPLEX, as it is a special honor to be recognized by our industry for our ScreenX technology,” stated CHOI. He added, “We’ve spent many years developing ScreenX with the goal of sparking a change in the industry and to witness its growing success with exhibitors and audiences is very fulfilling and exciting. We look forward to continuing the growth of the immersive experience in 2019 and share more additional titles to be enjoyed in our format.”

“CJ 4DPLEX is a true innovator in the exhibition industry, first with their 4DX format and now with ScreenX,” explained Robert Sunshine, Chairman of the Film Expo Group. “ScreenX is a true game changer for exhibitors. With their recent 100 screens agreement with Cineworld Group in June at CineEurope and ever-increasing line-up release from major Hollywood studios, we felt it appropriate to bestow this year’s award to CJ 4DPLEX for that innovation.”
