Finecut will launch sales on the period creature feature Monstrum (translated title) at the European Film Market (EFM) during the Berlin International Film Festival later this month. The big-budget title is the third work of Countdown (2011) director HEO Jong-ho and features KIM Myung-min, PARK Hee-soon and CHOI Woo-shik among others. Finecut will preview promotional footage of the title during EFM.

Set during the Joseon Era, the film finds a ragtag group of individuals attempting to defend the capital from a man-eating monster. Budgeted at over USD 11 million, the film is the latest production from film company TAEWON ENTERTAINMENT, which last ventured into theaters with the Korean War film Operation Chromite in 2016 and is also responsible for the five-part comedy franchise Marrying the Mafia (2002-2012), among others.

Leading the cast is veteran screen star KIM Myung-min who will be back in theaters next week in Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead, the third installment of the popular Lunar New Year period action-comedy franchise. His recent screen credits include the nuclear disaster film Pandora (2016) and last year’s time loop thriller A Day (2017). PARK Hee-soon is currently on screens as part of the all-star cast of 1987: When the Day Comes (2017). He also featured in the North Korean serial killer thriller V.I.P. (2017) and the period siege drama The Fortress (2017) last year.

CHOI Woo-shik, after breaking out in the indie Set Me Free (2014), has featured in major titles such as TRAIN TO BUSAN (2016) and BONG Joon-ho’s international project Okja, both of which bowed at the Cannes Film Festival, in 2016 and 2017, respectively. He will be back on screens in Golden Slumber this month and will soon start shooting Parasite, director BONG’s next project.

Also among the cast are character actor KIM In-kwon, of The Himalayas (2015), LEE Gyoung-young of Inside Men (2015), PARK Sung-woong of The Shameless (2015) and LEE Hye-ri of K-pop group Girl’s Day in her feature film debut.
