Lotte Cinema CEO Receives CineAsia Award

Special Achievement Award in HK for Korean Exhibitor

CHA Won-chun, the CEO of Lotte Cinema Co., Ltd, received a Special Achievement Award at the CineAsia Awards. The ceremony took place at the CineAisa Expo on Thursday, December 14 at the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong.

Now in its 23rd edition, the CineAsia Expo is one of three major film exhibition conferences staged around the world by The Film Expo Group, along with CineEurope, held in Barcelona and ShowEast, held in Miami.

Lotte Cinema is the second largest film exhibitor in Korea and has also grown its brand overseas, operating several locations in China (60 screens) and Vietnam (100 screens). Beyond its status as a market leader, the business has also been involved in exhibition innovation, introducing the dual 6P laser projector two years ago at its flagship Lotte Cinema World Tower multiplex (the largest theater in Korea) on its SuperPlex G screen, the largest cinema screen in the world. This year, in the same theater, they introduced the Super S screen, the world’s first LED screen.

“It gives us great pleasure to present the ‘Special Achievement Award’ to Won Chun CHA of Lotte Cinema,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “Lotte’s growth in the market has been phenomenal and it is all due to Mr. CHA’s leadership. We congratulate Lotte for its innovation and development in Southeast Asia.”

CHA is also in charge of Lotte’s film distribution company Lotte Entertainment, which releases approximately 12 local titles per year. Past hits have included The Pirates (2014), The Last Princess (2016) and Midnight Runners (2017). They are currently topping the charts with the fantasy epic Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds.
