Jury to also include Iranian Director Bahman Ghobadi
Oliver Stone will be joining the 22nd edition of the
Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). “BIFF decided five members of the jury for New Currents, the competitive section for young Asian directors.” the festival said in a press release on August 21st and added “Oliver Stone of
Platoon and
Born on the Fourth of July will head the jury.”
Since 1996, the start of BIFF, New Currents has introduced the works of young Asian directors. “It has played a major role in introducing various genres of challenging Asian films to the world.” BIFF explained, adding “The section will attract more attention this year than any year in the past as world-renowned filmmaker Oliver Stone will lead the jury.”
Joining Stone on the jury will be Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi, renowned French cinematographer Agnès Godard, ideological father of the New Philippine Cinema Lav Diaz and director
JANG Sun-woo, a leader of Korean films in 1990s.
