Creative Musical FAN LETTER Aiming to Advance into Overseas Markets

Hong Kong’s renowned director WONG Kar-wai will invest in the Korean musical play, Fan Letter. “Block 2 Music, a music company founded and owned by director WONG, will participate in the production of Fan Letter as an investor.” Korea’s musical playmaker Live Corp. said on August 1st. Block 2 Music is a subsidiary of WONG’s film studio Jet Tone, which specializes in making music, film and stage projects. Last year, the company made original soundtracks of Chungking Express, In The Mood For Love and Happy Together with film productions to mark Jet Tone’s 25th anniversary. This investment was conducted through Morein, which has imported and distributed WONG’s films domestically.

Premiering last year, Fan Letter was the winner of ‘GLOCAL Musical LIVE: Season 1’, a program which introduces domestically created musicals to overseas audiences. Fan Letter is about a writer’s love, friendship and passion of literature under Japanese occupation set in the background of Seoul in the 1930s. The play is based on the literature group ‘Association of the Nine People’ which among its members included genius poet LEE Sang, and KIM Yoo-jeong of Spring, Spring and The Cameliias fame. At a showcase in February 2016, it was selected as the best musical with high evaluations by Chinese and Japanese musical makers and professional judges. Meanwhile, Fan Letter will be performed at Dongsung Art Center, Jongno-gu, Seoul, from November 10th, 2017 to February 4th, 2018.
