Korean-American Star Joins Marvel Cinematic Universe

Korean-American actor Randall PARK is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp, in which he will play S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo.

PARK joins returning stars Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly, as the Wasp, Michael Douglas, as the Wasp’s father, and Michael Peña, as Ant-Man’s sidekick, along with Hannah John-Kamen of Black Mirror, who is also appearing in the series for the first time. The Jimmy Woo character first appeared in the first issue of the Yellow Claw comics in October 1956.

Known as one of the leads from the ABC comedy Fresh off the Boat (2015), PARK has appeared in several feature films, notably portraying North Korean dictator KIM Jong-un in the James Franco-Seth Rogen comedy The Interview (2014).

The first Ant-Man was released in 2015 and grossed over USD 500 million around the world, which included 2.84 million admissions in South Korea, where the Marvel brand is very popular. Director Peyton Reed returns for the sequel with Rudd and Gabriel Ferrari writing the script, while Kevin Feige is producing. Rudd’s Ant-Man character also featured in last year’s Captain America: Civil War. Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled to be released on July 6, 2018.
