Showbox Strikes More Deals for THE PRISON

Crime Drama Sells in Hong Kong Filmart
 

Showbox announced more sales for its crime drama The Prison during the Hong Kong Filmart this month. The NA Hyun-directed film, which opens in Korea on March 23rd, found buyers in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Klockworx snatched up the film for Japan, Swift Productions swooped in for rights in France, Switzerland and Africa, and Emphasis the worldwide in-flight rights. Prior to EFM, Showbox had already announced sales to Australia and New Zealand, China, Philippines and Taiwan.

The film features Swiri (1999) star HAN Suk-kyu as a prisoner who lords over his jail, running a crime empire with the help of the guards and warden. KIM Rae-won of Gangnam Blues (2015) plays the former cop who winds up behind bars and quickly rises within the crime syndicate.

The debut film of NA, a graduate of Chung-Ang University, also stars LEE Gyoung-young of Inside Men (2015) and JUNG Woong-in (Veteran, 2015). The film is one of recent or upcoming prison-set Korean titles, which include last year’s A Violent Prosecutor (also Showbox), and CJ Entertainment’s upcoming The Merciless

Following its domestic release, Well Go USA will launch the film stateside on March 31st. Showbox’s other upcoming titles include the election drama The Mayor with CHOI Min-shik and the period political drama Taxi Driver with SONG Kang-ho.
