Reel Life Production Grabs Remake Rights from CJ Entertainment

Ode to My Father, JK YOUN’s 2014 blockbuster that became the second highest grossing Korean film of all time, is gearing up for an Indian remake after CJ Entertainment sealed a deal with Reel Life Production.

From Haeundae (2009) director YOUN, Ode to My Father stars HWANG Jung-min as a man whose life spans several major events in modern Korean history. After going on release in December 2014, the big-budget melodrama went on to accumulate 14 million admissions and almost USD 100 million in sales in Korea alone.

According to Screen Daily, filmmaker Atul AGNIHOTRI, who secured the remake rights to the film and will serve as producer, stated that “Some stories fill you with sense of purpose. Ode to My Father is one such story and a fine example of Korean cinema. The Hindi version will only borrow the essence of the Korean film. We are happy with the association with CJ Entertainment and look forward to associating with them on many such projects in the future.”

The Hindu remake will switch out the Korean War for the Partition of India in 1947. Reel Life Production CEO Nikhil NAMIT elaborated that Ali Abbas ZAFAR will helm the update which will feature major Indian star Salman KHAN.
