KIM Tae-ri Joins Cast of JANG Joon-hwan’s 1987

KIM Tae-ri, the breakout star of PARK Chan-wook's erotic period thriller The Handmaiden last year, has joined the cast of upcoming drama 1987, which is quickly shaping up as one of the most anticipated titles on the horizon. The actress joins KIM Yun-seok, HA Jung-woo and GANG Dong-won in the new film from director JANG Joon-hwan.

Though KIM Tae-ri’s role hasn’t been revealed, she will appear in a story of the political crisis that paved the way to the June Democratic Uprising in 1987 which brought about the end of the military regime of President CHUN Doo-hwan. The protests kicked off when a group revealed the waterboarding techniques used during interrogation sessions to be the cause of PARK Jong-chul’s death, a student activist.

KIM Tae-ri is currently filming the YIM Soon-rye drama Little Forest alongside RYU Jun-yeol and MOON So-ri. Her co-stars KIM Yun-Seok and HA Jung-woo have appeared twice together before, in the NA Hong-jin films The Chaser (2008) and The Yellow Sea (2010). In 2013, KIM also featured in director JANG’s second film Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013). JANG debuted to international acclaim with Save the Green Planet in 2003. Meanwhile, GANG Dong-won recently starred in the hits The Priests (2015), A Violent Prosecutor (2016) and Master (2016).

CJ Entertainment is financing and distributing the film which will begin production within the first half of this year.
