Five Korean Films Invited to Göteberg

Indie Films Screen in Sweden



The 40th edition of the Göteberg International Film Festival kicked off on January 27th and will run until February 6th. This year, five films from South Korea, including four features and one animated short, have been invited to screen at the Swedish event.

KIM Ki-duk’s 22nd feature THE NET, featuring RYOO Seung-bum as a North Korean fisher who accidentally drifts to below the border and is interrogated by South Korean intelligence officers, will screen in the Masters section. The film debuted at Venice International Film Festival last year.

Mrs. B., A North Korean Woman, the Jero YUN-directed film which premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival and will go on release in France next month, is featured in the Documentary section.

The HBTQ section welcomes the LEE Hyun-ju’s debut Our Love Story, also a Jeonju premiere. The lesbian drama was produced by the Korean Academy of Film Arts and was also invited to the San Sebastian International Film Festival. 


The World of Us, another debut film, will screen in the Little Film Festival section. The children-oriented drama was directed by award-winning short filmmaker YOON Ga-eun and earned her several Best New Director prizes in Korea after premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival last year.

The Animani program will include JEONG Da-hee’s short The Empty. The animation debuted in competition at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival last year.
