Following its bow in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, The Handmaiden became a hit in Korea, where it garnered 4.29 million viewers (USD 29.84 million) and has won several prizes from domestic industry awards and international film festivals. In the US, where it is being distributed by Amazon Studios, the film is proving a hit with critics groups, having won several awards for Best Foreign Film in cities stretching from Los Angeles to Boston.

The Handmaiden stars KIM Tae-ri, KIM Min-hee and HA Jung-woo in a tale based of Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith.
