YOURSELF AND YOURS Triumphs in Spain
HONG Sang-soo has added yet another trophy to his expansive record of awards. Last week, the auteur filmmaker won the Silver Shell Award for Best Director from the 64th San Sebastian International Film Festival for his 18th feature
Yourself and Yours. It was the first time for the filmmaker to take a prize at the Spanish event, which awarded its top prize, the Golden Shell, to FENG Xiaogang’s Chinese drama
I Am Not Madame Bovary this year.
Yourself and Yours features an artist who gets into a fight with his girlfriend when he learns that she has been drinking with other men. When he tries to find her the next day, a woman that may or may not be his girlfriend goes around several local drinking establishments drinking with strange men.
In recent years, the director has enjoyed enormous success on the festival circuit, earning the Un Certain Regard prize for
HaHaHa in 2010, the Best Director prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2013 for
Our Sunhi and then the Golden Leopard in Locarno last year with
Right Now, Wrong Then, which also earned him the Best Film prize from the Gijon International Film Festival.
Yourself and Yours debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and is also screening at the New York Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
The director visited the festival, which ran from September 16th to 24th, with his two stars
LEE Yoo-young and
KIM Joo-hyuk.
Yourself and Yours is slated to open in Korean theatres in November.
